The Lazy Days of Summer

Summer is here and it looks like it may be here to stay. This is the longest continuous heatwave I can remember for years and it is glorious! As much as I refuse to complain about this, it can make it much more difficult to stay on track. Ice creams and beer gardens have a definite pull that can be hard to resist. There are a few things that are also equally good this time of year  that will help you save your weeklies for a few ice cold beers!

Fresh Fruit is amazing at this time of year and of course being 0pp it is the best way to snack and have a little something sweet. We eat with our eyes and the more colourful the more appealing. So load your bowl up with what you fancy and dig in. I like to keep some raspberries, blueberries and strawberries in the fridge to help curb a craving.

Water!! In heat like this your body needs it more than ever and you need to indulge. Try to have a bottle of water on you everywhere you go and keep on sipping throughout the day. If you do find yourself in a beer garden, have a pint of water between each drinks. Not only will this slow down your drinking saving your on propoints and euros, you will also help your head the morning after. You should be aiming for about 2 litres of water on a normal day, but I tend to get through much more in the heat!

Exercise! Now this one is a toughie as it can be so hard to face it in the heat. But it doesn't necessarily mean you have to go for a 10 mile run. Use a walk as an excuse to get out in the sunshine for a walk on your lunch break. Take your bike out of a cycle in the park, and if you don't have one then lots of place rent them. Plan a picnic with friends and family and bring along a football to kick around, or a cheap badmington set from the 2 euro store. Any excuse to be moving rather than sitting - just don't forget the sun screen.

What I do know is we have to enjoy the sun while it lasts. Get out there and top up your vitamin D!!
